Every morning someone in the company sorts the deliveries by hand. Which customer first, who takes goods only until 11, who is across town, what has to go into the van last so it comes out first. It takes time, it depends on one person, and a single wrong turn costs the whole afternoon.
Route planning for Odoo does that job instead. It orders the day's stops on real road times from Google, keeps each customer's agreed hours, and writes the arrival times and the loading order straight into Odoo. We host the service as part of PLANA Connect, so nothing is installed in your Odoo.
What it does
| In your Odoo | What route planning does |
|---|---|
| A batch of deliveries for one van | Orders the stops on real traffic and writes an arrival time on every delivery |
| Customers with agreed delivery hours | Keeps the hours - a customer who receives only until 11 is reached before 11 |
| The van at the warehouse | Returns the loading order reversed, so the first delivery goes into the van last |
| Customers with an address but no coordinates | Plans them by address - no geolocation to set up first |
| Deliveries that are not grouped in a batch | Groups them by day and by responsible person and plans each group as a run |
| Tasks for technicians, service crews and sales reps | Orders each person's day of visits and shows which bookings cannot be reached on time |
Built so that nothing surprising happens
A plan that changes on its own every quarter of an hour is worse than no plan. So the service plans a run once and then leaves it alone until something real changes: a new delivery, a moved stop, a changed delivery hour. Checking again costs nothing and moves nothing.
For visits the default is advice only. Booked appointments are promises to customers, so the service does not move them by itself. It shows the best order, the visits that will be late and the gaps in the day. Rescheduling is a switch the client turns on deliberately.
What a planned run looks like
An example from a test run on real roads in Sofia: six deliveries, one van leaving the warehouse at 09:00. The route came back from one request to Google, and the arrival times were written into the six deliveries in Odoo.
Who it is for
- Distributors and wholesalers with their own vans and customers who receive goods at set hours.
- Online shops with their own delivery - the day's orders become a route instead of a list.
- Catering, bakeries, building materials, furniture - anyone who drives goods to the customer.
- Service companies - technicians, installers, cleaning crews and sales reps with a day of visits.
What it needs: Odoo with the Inventory app for deliveries, or the Project app for visits, and your own Google Maps key. Google gives a free monthly allowance on each account, so a normal delivery operation pays little or nothing for it.
Want to see it with your own deliveries?
Send us one day of your deliveries or visits and we will show you the planned route. If Odoo is not in place yet, route planning comes with the ERP implementation.
