On 1 January 2026, Bulgaria adopted the euro as its official currency. For every organisation that runs an ERP system for process management, finance and reporting, this is no longer a future event to plan for - it is the environment you operate in today. If your ERP is already running on EUR, the focus now shifts to clean reporting, dual-pricing compliance and closing out the transition period. If you have not migrated yet, it is still fully achievable on a compressed, well-tested timeline.
All of our partners now operate in an environment with the EUR as the base currency. Data from the old BGN environment has not been deleted - it remains available for reporting, period-end closing and archive needs.
At Plana Solutions we have refined a detailed and flexible strategy for ERP euro migration. Our approach combines customisable technical solutions with minimal disruption to daily operations and complete visibility into the process.
What is important to know now?
The euro has been the working currency in the ERP environment since 1 January 2026.
The former BGN database stays active for backup, audit and historical reporting.
We offer two migration scenarios - chosen according to the structure and needs of the business.
For customers with individual developments or extra modules, we provide a specialised migration and setup offer.
Two approaches, based on your organisation's needs
Option 1: Fresh start - free configuration
An ideal solution for companies that want to start clean, without transferring old operations and history.
What's included:
Setup of a new base with EUR as the base currency
Transfer of core data: counterparties, products, bank accounts
Entry of opening balances as of the go-live date
Functional testing and a short team training
Optional paid transfer of selected modules or custom logic
Suitable for small and medium systems without complex integrations.
Option 2: Full migration with history and personalisation
For companies with significant data volume, multiple modules and specific business rules.
What it includes:
Detailed analysis of the current ERP configuration and customisations
A tailored project plan with a clear timeline
Transfer of selected or all historical transactions and documents
Post-migration support to ensure uptime
Pricing based on the real ERP structure - accounting, logistics, procurement, manufacturing and more
The best choice for larger organisations with specific functionality and a need for a continuous business cycle.
Which scenario fits you?
| Criterion | Option 1: Fresh start | Option 2: Full migration |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Small / medium systems | Larger, customised systems |
| Historical data | Core master data only | Selected or full history |
| Custom modules | Optional, paid | Included and re-tested |
| Typical timeline | 2-4 weeks | Scoped per project |
| Base cost | Free configuration | Based on ERP structure |
Why is collaboration between teams key?
A successful ERP euro migration is not only a technical task - it depends on good coordination between your team and ours. The earlier we align, the smoother the process runs.
System changes take time to plan, configure and test
Decisions made early prevent a build-up of tasks around period-end and year-end closing
Involving your key people (finance, logistics, IT) at the planning stage keeps your business specifics in scope
Collaboration means predictability - for you and for us
Delaying decisions can compromise clean reporting and the current transition period, so we encourage early involvement and active participation from client teams.

Useful legal and operational requirements
During the transition period, prices must be displayed in both lev and euro, in the same font and clearly marked, so customers can compare values. (Source)
Conversion of values into euro is done at the fixed rate of 1.95583 BGN = 1 EUR. (Source)
For a defined period, the BNB and banks exchange lev into euro without fees or restrictions. (Source)
Contracts in lev remain valid, with values converted to euro and rounding rules applied without changing the terms. (Source)
